18 things I’ve learnt before turning 18

  1. You can endure much more than you think.
  2. Screw expectations, trends and stereotypes.
  3. Read, Read, Read.
  4. Always be kind.
  5. Stay away from the things that life purposefully steers you away from.
  6. Friendships can be frail, superficial and hurt just as bad as breakups.
  7. Have an outlet that you are passionate about, it can evolve into something great.
  8. When you’re on your own, you’ll surprise yourself and those around you by how you carry yourself.
  9. Always be prepared, always have a plan B, C, D.
  10. Nothing in the world is worth getting so anxious for that you give yourself an ulcer.
  11. When in doubt, ask.
  12. Visualizing or writing your goals down helps with achieving them.
  13. Talking to strangers can make you a great new friend or an easy target. Be careful.
  14. Learn from every opportunity you get.
  15. Be patient. Sometimes things don’t work out for better things to fall into their place.
  16. Being selfish is not a bad thing sometimes.
  17. Believing in something can take you farther than you anticipated.
  18. Live the life you want.
